Schools closed Thursday, December 8 due to inclement weather.
Afternoon and evening activities canceled.

Typically the Gresham-Barlow School District decides whether to close school early in the morning. We are making this decision the night before because of the predicted timing of the storm.

Forecasts for December 8, 2016, show that significant snow should arrive by 10 a.m. and the snow will be followed by freezing rain and sleet.

While the roads may seem fine early in the morning tomorrow, we took into account that if an unusually strong storm hits later in the morning (as forecasted) it would be extremely challenging to get students and staff home in potentially dangerous conditions.

We hope that making this decision now will provide families with more time to make childcare arrangements.

While this decision will not be universally popular, we believe it is best to err on the side of caution. We made this decision tonight in the interest of keeping our students and staff safe.

Principal's Message
Welcome to the 2014-15 School year at East Orient Elementary School,

It is with enthusiasm that I write this letter of introduction to you as the new Principal of East Orient Elementary School. I possess over 9 years of educational experience spanning grades K-8 with a specific concentration in elementary education where I’ve taught 3rd, 4th and 5th grade.  My most recent administrative experience has been shaped by three years of successful leadership as the Director of the Oregon Trail Academy (grades K-8) and one year as a Dean of Students at the Welches Schools.

I am excited to bring my skills as an educational leader to your son/daughter’s school and to work with you as a partner in education to ensure your child’s success.

Along with the East Orient staff, I will work hard to continue the legacy of success established at East Orient by building strong and positive relationships with parents, students, staff, and community partners.  We will also continue to focus on our
six educational initiatives, and in so doing ensure students’ achievement.

I anticipate a successful year as the staff support the academic, social, and emotional growth of your child here at East Orient Elementary School.

During the course of the year, it is my hope that we will work together to provide our students of the best possible opportunities in preparing them to be world class citizens ready for the challenges of the 21st Century with a solid foundation created here at our school.

As Principal, my door is always open and I welcome your input. Please feel free to stop in or call to make an appointment to discuss any concerns, suggestions, or ideas to help make this the best year yet!

As a reminder, the first day of school is Tuesday September 2nd.

I look forward to working with you and your child.

Sincerely,

James Milliken

Principal

East Orient Elementary School
